Lynn Deyerle graduated from Andrew Lewis High School in 1948. He was a member of the Latin Club and the Projection Club for three years and was a percussionist with the school band.

Lynn was drafted into the United States Marine Corps in 1951, and after boot camp at Parris Island, South Carolina, was assigned to the training depot’s Marine Band. He served as a percussionist with the band until he was honorably discharged by the Marine Corps in 1953.

After serving with the Marines, Lynn entered the highly acclaimed Julliard School of Music in New York. He used a partial scholarship and the G.I. Bill to finance his education and received a diploma in percussion.

Lynn chose to make music his life’s work and entered the field as a few lance percussionist and played with many outstanding orchestra and music groups. He has performed with the New York City Ballet Orchestra, The Joffrey Ballet Orchestra, Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, Little Orchestra Society Far East Tour, Symphony Orchestra of Puerto Rico, and the Music and Arts Center of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Lynn also played for a number of years with the long running off Broadway show “Threepenny Opera (Mack the Knife.)” In addition, he played with the Goldman Band Concerts in both Central Park and Damrosch Park in New York.

Other career highlights include a TV season with Candid Camera, playing for the Martha Graham Dance Company, and touring and recording with Fred Waring and the Pennsylvanians. In addition to a number of other freelance performances, Lynn also tutored students in percussion instruments. His community service includes playing at the Roosevelt Island Senior Center for both programs and dances, and upon retiring in 2001, he donated drums and other percussion instruments to Public School 217 in New York City.

Lyn and his wife Barbara live in Long Island city, New York. They have two children, Laura Lynn Roth and David Wallace Deyerle.

In recognition of his outstanding career achievement, Wallace Lynn Deyerle is inducted into the 2003 Salem Alumni Hall of Fame established by the Salem Educational Foundation and Alumni Association.
