George Wilcox Dyer

George Wilcox Dyer graduated from Salem High School 1981.  He was a member of the Chorale and also participated in an opera at Roanoke College during his high school years.

Coming from a family where music was always played and sung around the house, George began his musical training at an early age, singing in the choir and studying violin while attending Fairview Elementary in Roanoke. He continued to participate in school choirs at Back Creek Elementary, Cave Spring Jr. High, Hidden Valley Jr. High, Cave Spring High and the last two years under the guidance of  William Snyder at Salem High School, where he graduated from in 1981.  Those formative years helped prepare George to "take the next step" in following his dream to become a professional singer.

George soared onto the operatic scene in 1996, making his professional debut to rave reviews with the New York City Opera.  Since then he has performed in more than 40 operas in prestigious opera houses and concert halls across North America and in many countries throughout the world.

George has been a frequent soloist with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, including a 2005 worldwide broadcast to over 63 countries, translated into over 75 languages.

George is a gifted performer of musical theater; he has enchanted countless audiences all over the United States and Europe.  In August, 2009, “The George Dyer Show” opened with rave reviews at the Dutton Family Theater in Branson, Missouri. Tonight we celebrate his return to his alma mater and the Roanoke Valley.

In recognition of his outstanding career achievements, George Wilcox Dyer, is inducted into the 2009 Salem Alumni Hall of Fame established by the Salem Educational Foundation and Alumni Association.
