Richard M. Furr
Though he was born in High Point, North Carolina, and now lives in Greensboro, Richard Michael Furr is a 1961 graduate of Andrew Lewis High School in Salem Virginia, where the yearbook’s Senior Mirror cited him as “Most Dependable.” He was president of the Beta Club, a member of both the Latin Club and F.F.A. (Future Farmers of America) and served on the yearbook staff.
In 1965, Richard received a B. A. degree from the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia, and in 1969 hi Ph.D. in Organizational Psychology from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, where he had received an M.A. in Industrial Psychology.
After completing his doctorate, Dr. Furr became Assistant Professor at the School of Business Administration at American University in Washington, D.C. where he taught graduate and undergraduate courses. Concurrently, he provided consulting services to government and private sector organizations. As a consultant he has worked with groups from various industries, including financial, development, utility, health care, local and federal government, and non-profit service organizations.
Dr. Furr has had many articles published in professional journals and in books on consulting practices, and has been a frequent presenter at conferences of human resource professionals. Richard is a Past Chapter President and Board Member of the American Society for Training and Development. He also holds membership in: The American Psychological Association; Southeastern Psychological Association; Rotary International; and Lambda Chi Alpha, as well as the Greensboro Drug Action Council and the Greensboro City Planning Board.
Richard hopes to curtail some of his business travels to spend more time with his wife Margaret Hodges Furr and sons: Richard Michael, Jr. and David Andrew. He also plans to spend more time in service to Holy Trinity Episcopal Church where he is on the vestry, is an usher, and Sunday School teacher. He also coaches flag football for 6-7 year olds and is a career counselor for Chinese dissidents seeking asylum in the United States.
With twenty years of national and international experience and expertise in the dynamics of organizational development, Richard now works with corporate executives in developing individual and organizational leadership strategies through CCG (the Carolinas Consulting Group, Inc.), a firm of organizational psychologists which he founded, himself. Previous to CCG, Furr was a partner in LEAD Associates, Inc., a management consulting firm in Greensboro.

In recognition of his outstanding career achievements, in 1996 Richard Michael Furr was among the charter members inducted into the Salem Alumni Hall of Fame established by the Salem Educational Foundation and Alumni Association.
