Carey Harveycutter, a dedicated Salem Civic Center employee since 1968 when an office runner for then Manager  Jack Dame, progressed up the career ladder to become its Director in 1983.  As Director of Civic Facilities, he maintains supervision of Salem Civic Center, Salem Stadium, Salem Memorial Baseball Stadium, Salem Catering & Concessions, as well as the Salem Fair and Exposition.

Harveycutter serves as Tournament Director for NCAA  Division III championship events in football, basketball, baseball, and softball.  In this capacity, he works closely with NCAA sports committees and the ODAC Commissioner to assure that these events continue to run with the expediency and excellent community support that their proud history proves them to possess.

Carey is a 1970 graduate of Andrew Lewis High School in Salem, Virginia, followed by studies at Virginia Western Community College in Roanoke.  He is married to Judy Smith Harveycutter.  Their three daughters are: Amelia, Hilary, and Taylor.

Besides his family, Carey is devoted also to his church.  He is a lifelong member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Salem and has served as vestry member, junior warden, senior warden, every member canvas Chairman, and presently teaches a 6th grade Confirmation class.

Carey is a member of the Roanoke Valley Convention and Visitor Bureau Board of Directors.

Carey has two other strong areas of interest: Rescue Squad and Country Music.  He is a life member of the Salem Rescue Squad.  After serving 13 years as an active member, he is one of only 60+ Life members of the Virginia Association of Volunteer Rescue Squads.  Presently, Carey is serving as Chairman of Life Membership Committee of his association, as well as being a member of the International Rescue Hall of Fame selection committee.  He is a former secretary and board member of the Western Virginia Emergency Medical Council.

No wonder then, that the Salem Rotary Club in the Spring of 1995 selected Carey Harveycutter as its citizen of the year.

Carey’s interest in Country Music is not just a local involvement.  He is a past board member of the International Country Music Buyers Association and is a member of the Country Music Association, International Association of Auditorium Managers, and International Association of Fairs & Expositions.

In recognition of his outstanding career achievements, in 1996 Carey Harveycutter was among the charter members inducted into the Salem Alumni Hall of Fame established by the Salem Education Foundation and Alumni Association.
