Since graduating from Andrew Lewis High School in 1973, George B. McClure has served his country in Georgia, Maryland, Washington, and Hawaii, as well as in Germany, Korea, and in Saudi Arabia during Desert Storm.  To prepare for these years of duty in the service of his country, he received a B.S. degree from the University of Richmond in 1977 and served a Graduate Fellowship in biology there the next two years.  On May 8, 1979, McClure was ranked a Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Ordnance Corps, serving in Maryland and the Republic of Korea before pursuing an Army Health Profession Scholarship at Eastern Virginia Medical School where he become a Doctor of Medicine on June 18, 1983.

The next month George entered an internship in Family Medicine at the Eisenhower Army Medical Center at Fort Fordon, Georgia, and a second post-graduate year there in 1984-85.  In ‘85-’86, he was Company Commander of C Company (Medical) of the 1st Forward Support Battalion of the 9th Infantry Division Centered at Fort Lewis, Washington, where the following year he served as Resident in OB/GYN of the Madigan Army Medical Center.

From December 1990 to May 1991, Operation Desert Storm saw McClure as Chief of Outpatient Services/ Chief of Gynecology Services at the 12th Evacuation Hospital (DEPMEDS) in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.  Prior to this he was Chief, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology with the 98th General Hospital (3rd Combat Support) in Nuremberg, Germany (1989-92).  His next assignment took him to the Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu where, as Chief of Service, Reproductive Endocrinology & Infertility of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, on December 4, 1994, he was ranked Lieutenant Colonel.

Among his twelve military decorations are: Army Commendation Medal with 2nd Oak Leaf Cluster, Southwest Asia Service Medal with 3 battle stars, Army Parachutist Badge, and Expert Field Medic Badge.  Leading up to these honors were nine others from Eagle Scout to Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities, a 4-year Army ROTC Scholarship, and memberships in four honor societies in biology, chemistry, psychology, and leadership, as well as four other medical associations, serving as a Fellow in the American College of OB/GYN.

Virginia Grace McClure and Kathleen Eleni McClure are the children of George B. and Helen Zorzakis McClure who lived in Concord, Massachusetts, where, from 1995 to the present, George has served an Instructor-fellowship in Pelvic Reconstructive Surgery and Urogynecology at the Massachusetts General Hospital/ Harvard Medical School in Boston.

In recognition of his outstanding career achievements, George B. McClure was among the charter members inducted into the Salem Alumni Hall of Fame established by the Salem Educational Foundation and Alumni Association in 1996.
