New Scholarship in Memory of SHS Alumnus Adam Ward

Family and friends of Adam Ward, a 2007 graduate of Salem High School, have established a scholarship to honor his memory.  Adam was loved and treasured by the SHS community, his peers at WDBJ7, and his family and friends.  Adam was the son of Mary and Buddy Ward, who chaired the SHS Guidance Department until his retirement a few years ago.

We may not have known each other personally, but I went to school with you and you had been in a few of my classes throughout the years and you always had a smile on and just radiated positivity. You had and still do have a beautiful soul. May you find peace in knowing that you were and always will be loved and never forgotten.

“Do not stand at my grave and weep. I am not there. I do not sleep. I am a thousand winds that blow. I am the diamond glints on snow. I am the sunlight on ripened grain. I am the gentle autumn rain. When you awaken in morning’s hush, I am the swift uplifting rush of quiet birds in circled flight. I am the soft stars that shine at night. Do not stand at my grave and cry; I am not there. I did not die.”

Adam was a very special person we were lucky to know and call a friend. We hope this scholarship fund helps keep his memory alive and strong at Salem High School.

    • Aaron and Katie, I am so sorry for your loss. I am writing a piece about Adam and Alison for a national journalism industry magazine called Quill (of the Society of Professional Journalists). I wonder if one of you would be willing to talk with me about Adam–who he was as a person and how you remember him. I can be reached by email at gbelmaker@gmail.com and by phone in NYC at 917-232-2920. Thank you so much.
